Louie’s Recap on the New Zealand Open

We just finished up the NZ Open. I was pre-qualified for both slope
and pipe but had to skip out on the slope because I got PLAYED during
the morning halfpipe practice. I decided to chill the rest of the day, ice my ankle and make sure I was able to ride pipe for the next day.
We got lucky and had pretty good weather for the pipe day. Everything seemed to be clicking and I won semi-finals which I was stoked about. I got to finally throw a double cork in a contest atmosphere and it seemed to be the trick of the contest as Shaun threw one and Luke also threw a double chuck.
The finals I had a little bit of trouble putting something together and in my third run I decided just to go for it. I used the NZ
Open as practice for this coming winter. Basically just to get use to the contest feeling again and have another chance to throw down in the winter conditions of a firm pipe.
I did a double cork 10, to cab 10, and instead of doing a fs 9 I did a fs 12 and just barely sat down in the flat bottom. I hadn’t really fallen on that trick much which was kind of a bummer but it’s all good as I haven’t done one since last April. All in all, I am happy with how I rode and the contest. People were throwing down, Kazu, Shaun, Luke, Mase, so it was cool to be up there with all of the homies having fun.
Hit you up soon!
