"This image is inspired by the lingering pain, due to the lack of closure. I've been here before. It's become all too familiar."
Cleveland based artist, Derek Hess, gained notoriety in the mid-90s for his explosively passionate illustrations for underground concert posters. He has since then focused more attention on his “fine art” prints and drawings, while still selectively creating concert posters. His sketchy, aggressive figures and dark subject matter often relate to the bands for which he is illustrating, as well as express his inner emotions that he cultivates in his art.
Derek has exhibited throughout most of the world and is in the permanent collections of the Louvre in France and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in Cleveland. He has been featured in publications such as Spin Magazine, Newsweek, Juxtapoz, Alternative Press, and numerous other magazines around the world. His art has also been featured on MTV and VH1.
In addition to his pursuits as an artist, Derek created Strhess Clothing and is currently venturing into developing Strhessfest, which is a festival that features both music and art.
