John Laing has been snowboarding the great mountains of the northwest for over 20 seasons now. Signing on really early to the Northwest series competing up and down the coast as well as attending nationals, and the worlds. His snowboarding has taken him all over the world and now he resides as Frequency the Snowboarder Journal's Editor. From interviews with Nicholas Muller to Terje, John always comes across as an intelligent, mindful snowboarder with a keened eye for the mountains and the people that it involves.
I first met John formally (I had seen him shredding it up a lot around Washington) at college at Western Washington University he was traveling with the k2 pro team filming and getting shots traveling all over the world and I knew this was what I wanted to be doing. From trips in the backcountry with legends like Brian Savard to rolling with his crew the SFJ (Silver Fur Jibbers) which donned such pros as Shaun McKay and Bobi Rey.
Today John does interviews with snowboarding’s elite and still gets many days up on the hill. His presence is always known at Mt Baker and any surrounding peaks that the northwest has to offer. Snowboarding has given John a great life and any one in the industry will tell you that Johns charisma and generosity is second to none. 686 salutes Frequency editor John Laing keep up the shred and positivity and thanks for rocking 686!
